SAT Test Day Preparation Checklist

Everything you need to prepare for SAT test day: what to bring, arrival timing, break strategy, and mental preparation. Avoid the common logistics mistakes.

What to Expect at the Testing Center

The Digital SAT is administered on a computer or tablet using the College Board's Bluebook app. You'll need a photo ID, your admission ticket, and an approved calculator — or you can use the built-in Desmos graphing calculator.

The test takes approximately 2 hours 14 minutes, not including check-in. There is one break between the Reading & Writing and Math sections. Knowing the logistics in advance eliminates anxiety and decision fatigue so you can focus entirely on the questions.

Key Strategies

Arrive 30 minutes early. Check-in takes longer than expected and rushing creates anxiety that directly impairs performance on the first module.

Bring snacks and water for the break. Your brain uses glucose — hunger and thirst during the Math section affect concentration in ways that are measurable.

During the break between sections, stand up, breathe, and avoid reviewing your R&W answers mentally. Reset completely rather than ruminating on what went well or poorly.

Trust your preparation. Pre-test anxiety about performance often hurts more than any remaining knowledge gap. Your practice scores are a valid predictor of your test day performance.

Common Mistakes

Cramming the night before. Sleep provides more score benefit than any last-minute review session. Prioritize seven to eight hours of sleep over studying past 10 PM the night before the test.

Using an unfamiliar calculator setup on test day. If you plan to use a personal calculator, practice with it extensively before the test. Fumbling with unfamiliar buttons under time pressure is a real cost.

Forgetting your admission ticket or ID. Lay out everything you need the night before — ID, admission ticket, pencils, calculator, snacks.

Practice Tips

Simulate test day conditions during your final practice tests: same time of day, same physical setup, same break routine. Familiarity with the experience reduces the performance cost of anxiety.

ScoreBooster's full practice tests include all four modules with authentic timing so your practice conditions match test day as closely as possible.
